Atlanta Hotoberfest Follow-up

Yes, we did end up going to the Hotoberfest in Atlanta, as well as the Decatur Beer Festival, and they were both great.

Listening to live music and drinking beer at Hotoberfest in AtlantaThanks to Keith P., for asking. Which reminds me…Readers of the Blog – It’d be a good idea to post comments in the Blog instead of just emailing me. But anyway, yes we did go. To go straight to the Photos, just scroll to the bottom.

It was a bit of an ordeal getting there, and of course got lost along the way…several times. :P

Trying some new beer at the Hotoberfest in AtlantaBut we finally made it to the Hotoberfest and were glad we did. After parking down the street, we walked through the Glenwood Park Community, and that in itself was worth it. I’m not a huge fan of the idea of paying through the nose for a house that has approximately 5 feet for a front yard, back yard, and that same distance between you and your neighbor. And this community was like that.

Now, that being said, I gotta say that this community made me think twice; I only wish we took some photos of the place. Each house had a completely different look, shape, atmosphere and they have their German theme prevails at Hotoberfest in Atlantaown little restaraunts, pubs etc. Get a small glimpse at Glenwood Park’s site. It was just really quite interesting. If you have a free hour or two on day and are in the Atlanta area, I definitely suggest that you go down there and just walk around.

If I remember correctly, it was about $35 per person to get in to the beer tent, and luckily enough my girlfriend did not have to pay, but just get a stamp, since she wouldn’t be drinking.

Trying and Rating beers at Hotoberfest in AtlantaAlthough I wasn’t able to try all of the beers (as I don’t think any mere mortal can), I did try a good few (and some not so good), and learned some bits about my own tastes; for example, I realised that I like "Bitters" (and I really liked Bridgeport’s ESB. I fell in love with Magic Hat’s "Circus Boy".

Unibroue’s "Trois Pistoles" & "Ephemere" were in my tops as well.

And then of course, there was Sweetwater’s Blue.

The winners of this beer contest were:

GOLD
Delirium – Tremens

SILVER
Lagunitas – Maximus IPA

BRONZE
Dogfish Head – 90 Minute IPA

HONORABLE MENTION
Full Sail – Session Lager

Father and Son fun at Hotoberfest in AtlantaOther than the outstanding beer tasting, we of course ran into a friend or two, had ice cream (well – she did anyway:P), listened to some great music and chilled out on the lawn.

Oh! And I did get a cool cap! ;)
